Meet Julia

About myself

I am a 25-year-old Brazilian girl and I completed my bachelor's degree in Economics in my hometown, Londrina. Due to my work experience in data analysis and my desire for a change of scenery, I decided to come to Italy and pursue a master's degree in Applied Economic Data Analytics. Since arriving, I've been eating lots and lots of pizza! Let me know if I can help you with anything!

Why did you choose the University of Padua and the Applied Economics degree programme? Would you recommend it to other students?

First, I chose the country. Then, I filtered all the options to focus on fields I had already worked in—and enjoyed! The University of Padova offered a brand-new programme, perfectly aligned with my area of interest and featuring fascinating topics. UniPD was the only university I applied to, and in the end, I got in—so here I am!
I would recommend this to all students with a strong quantitative background who are eager to take on challenges. And, of course, loving pasta and pizza is a must!

What are the main features of your degree programme?

The course is mainly (if not entirely) quantitative, which I believe is its key feature. Besides that, we have some practical courses (e.g. Python and business analysis) that are really helpful. In all courses, professors also invite guest speakers to discuss practical, course-related topics—it's super interesting!

Is there any class/subject that has stood out to you?

I should definitely mention the Python and Machine Learning course, aligned with Business Analytics for Accounting and Financial Data—these were practical courses that really stood out to me. Besides that, I also really enjoyed Econometric Analysis, Impact Evaluation, and Data Protection Legislation. I had some prior knowledge in all of these subjects, but the courses truly enhanced my understanding, sometimes allowing me to see things from different perspectives.

What advice would you give to potential students when it comes to preparing a successful application?

Read the information available on the UniPD website carefully, be honest in your application, and pay close attention to deadlines and language requirements.

What advice would you give to potential students thinking of studying in Italy? What should they expect of Padua?

I have three main pieces of advice: first, complete the pre-courses before coming—even if you're already familiar with the subject, it's always better to review it. Second, try to learn some Italian; you can survive without it, but knowing a bit will make your life much easier. And finally, be prepared to deal with Italian bureaucracy!

What do you do when you’re not studying? What do you like to do in your free time?

When I have free time, my favorite thing to do is explore new cafés around the city!
