Before your arrival - International courses of study
In order to enrol at the University of Padova (UniPD), you will have to provide through the online application form ("Application form", see Step 3 below) the qualifications that give access to the First-cycle/Bachelor's degree course you will attend in Padova:
For Bachelor's degree programmes:
- Secondary school diploma
For master's degree programmes (University Master's degree):
- Secondary school diploma
- Bachelor's Degree (or certificate) and complete transcript of records
We accept diplomas and transcripts in Italian, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
If you have not yet completed the degree course that allows you access to the syllabus you will attend at Unipd, we ask you to upload the most recent transcript of records available in the application form. You can send the final diploma/certificate later by email to: mobility.in@unipd.it.
EU students can use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC/EHIC) for healthcare in case of emergency.
Non-EU students residing outside the EU must have valid private health insurance for visa application purposes. It is therefore recommended to upload a valid insurance card, policy or certificate directly into the online application form.
If you do not yet have insurance at the time of filling out the online form, you can later email it to mobility.in@unipd.it.
Similarly, if you need assistance in choosing a valid health insurance for both your visa and residence permit, you can write to the same address. Some tips on international insurance can be found here.
A Schengen visa medical insurance must meet the following requirements:
- health coverage of at least € 30,000
- Coverage for emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of the body
Health insurance for the residence permit in Italy must also:
- be valid for the entire mobility period (although – for visa purposes – some Embassies/Consulates accept insurance with coverage limited to a shorter period)
- offer a contact in Italy to contact in case of emergency.
Filling out the online form is mandatory.
Deadlines:
- 15 June for the first semester and for the entire academic year
- 15 November for the second semester
Read the instructions below carefully and then fill out the form here.
Click on "International Students" in the horizontal menu at the top and then on "Application form (International Joint Programmes)".
Documents to be uploaded in the online application form:
- Copy of passport or ID card
- Passport-sized photo
- Previous qualifications (at university level) – we need the documents relating to the qualification that allows access to the degree course you will attend at Unipd, e.g. the Bachelor's degree (Bachelor's) if you will enrol in a master's degree (University Master's). You Devi to upload the diploma/degree certificate and the complete transcript of records (or the Diploma Supplement) in a single file. If you have not yet completed the degree course that allows you access to the syllabus you will attend at Unipd, upload the most recent transcript available.
- Previous qualifications (at secondary level): we need information (name of the school, graduation date, duration, final grade or GPA) on the qualification that gave you access to university, i.e. the high school diploma (attaching the diploma is mandatory only if obtained in Italy, otherwise the required information is sufficient).
- Health and travel insurance (if already available) – recommended document
- European Residence Permit or Visa (if you have one): If you have more than one valid visa and/or residence permit, combine them into one file and upload them all.
We accept diplomas and transcripts in Italian, English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
After the application deadline, any missing or updated documents can be emailed to mobility.in@unipd.it.
Although applications for accommodation in university residences by students enrolled in international courses have priority, applications from non-European students will be favoured, in view of the visa requirements related to accommodation.
More information can be found in the Incoming Student Accommodation Application section.
Non-EU students residing outside the EU must apply for a visa before arriving in Italy, following the instructions provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. An electronic copy of the invitation letter will be emailed to the address indicated by the student during registration.
Invitation letters will be sent only after receipt and administrative verification of all documents required in the admission application.
The Projects & Mobility Office – Mobility Sector will not send any original invitation letter by post: the Italian Embassy/Consulate will receive the letter directly from the University of Padova via PEC – Certified Electronic Mail.
The transmission of digital documents via PEC between Italian public administrations has legal value equivalent to the sending of original documents and is part of the digitization process adopted by the Italian Public Administration in recent years.
To apply for a Schengen visa, you need health insurance. The criteria that the insurance must meet are indicated in the Step "Health insurance" (see above).
Non-EU students residing in the EU, in possession of a European residence permit, may be exempt from the visa requirement.
- If your European permit is valid for the entire period of stay in Italy, you do not need a visa to enter the country: just inform the Police Headquarters of your arrival in Padova through the "Declaration of presence".
This procedure costs only €16.00, but it does not allow you to work or stay in Italy after graduating from the University of Padova. - If your European permit expires before the end of your stay in Italy and you will not renew it before arrival in Padova, you may need to apply for an Italian visa in the EU country where you currently reside. With that visa, you will also need to apply for an Italian residence permit once you arrive in Italy.
- It is necessary to apply for an Italian visa even if after Italy you have to visit another country for which you need a visa and want to apply for a visa from Italy, without returning to the previous European country of which you hold the residence permit.
We will provide you with guidance on the most suitable procedure once you know the exact expiry date of your current permit and after also taking into account any subsequent mobilities.
Health insurance is required for all these procedures. The insurance requirements are described in the "Health Insurance" section (see above).
A Buddy Service is available to support students participating in exchange programs.
All incoming students can request a Buddy before their arrival in Padova: we will inform them when it will be possible to do so.
The Buddy's job is to welcome exchange students and assist them, especially at the beginning of their stay.
If you request it, your Buddy will contact you prior to your arrival.
Students can attend the Italian language courses offered by our language center, CLA – University Language Center.
The enrolment period opens about two weeks before the start of the courses.
Further information is available by filling out the CLA contact form, which can be accessed online.
