Brief overview of the course

Characteristics and objectives

This degree course is characterized by a strong international appeal and is proposed as a pole of attraction for foreign students, and for Italian students who want to use their professional resources to achieve success at an international level. It allows students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for both basic and applied research in the fields of psychology and medicine, with particular reference to training in the neuropsychological, neuroimaging and brain stimulation fields of study, as well as in diagnosis of cognitive disorders. The latest acquisitions in the field of
neuroimaging and brain stimulation, in fact, have made clear the need to understand the neural basis of cognition and behaviour, as well as to plan, implement and then evaluate rehabilitation protocols.
Secondly, this degree course offers the opportunity to train professionals in the field of neuropsychology who will be able to assess the cognitive and behavioural changes in neurological and psychiatric patients, and set up preventive interventions, treatment and rehabilitation of higher cortical functions resulting from pathological events derived from various causes, either congenital or
acquired.
Students will gain knowledge regarding the main theoretical models of cognitive processes and their neural basis, in addition to knowledge of the main disorders of cognitive functions resulting from
developmental, degenerative or acquired disorders. Additionally, particular attention will be provided to? the application of cognitive models for psychiatric and neurological patients.
The program is in line with those of the most prestigious international universities (Harvard University, MIT, Oxford University).

Occupational opportunities

The degree course allows the access to public health and private bodies, to professional consulting services, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychological and cognitive disorders. The degree allows employment opportunities at the international level in designing cognitive tests involving the use of neuroimaging, electrophysiology and brain stimulation. In addition to the design of cognitive tests, students are also required to be able to analyze brain activity. Specific professionals have developed, such as psychologists performing analysis, via software, of functional resonance imaging (SPM; Brain Voyager, etc.).
