The official call for this year's VeUMEU, edition is now open, inviting students to challenge themselves in an international and educational setting by participating in a simulation of the workings of European Union institutions. The available roles include Member of the European Parliament, Member of the Council, and Member of the Press.
The event will take place from May 8th to 10th at San Servolo, which also houses the Venice International University, and will simulate the main decision-making processes of the EU, focusing particularly on the Council and the European Parliament.
Additionally, a mandatory preparatory workshop will be held on April 24th at San Servolo, designed to equip participants with the necessary tools to effectively engage in the simulation.
The available roles are:
Member of the European Parliament
The Member of the European Parliament represents a specific national party within a political group in the European Parliament. Their task is to study legislative proposals to assess their alignment with the interests of the political party they represent. Alongside other members of the same faction, they contribute to drafting position papers and, during the simulation, participate in debates and form alliances to support amendments and shared political positions.
Evaluation criteria: Previous experience in MUN or MEU and strong communication skills.
Member of the Council
The Member of the Council represents the head of an EU Member State. Participants in this role must analyse legislative proposals to verify their compatibility with the interests of the state they represent. Unlike the parliamentary role, the work on position papers is conducted individually. During the simulation days, participants will engage in negotiations, discussions with other delegates, and alliance-building to promote amendments consistent with their stance.
Evaluation criteria: Previous experience in MUN (Model United Union) or MEU (Model European Union) and strong communication skills.
Member of the Press
A Member of the Press writes articles for the simulation's newspaper, EUNOW, reporting on activities in the EU Parliament or the Council. Additionally, they interview members of the EU and the Council during press conferences at the end of each simulation day.
Evaluation criteria: Experience in writing and strong communication skills.
VeUMEU offers an opportunity to deepen understanding of European institutions, develop negotiation and public speaking skills, and engage in a formative experience alongside others interested in EU topics.
Those wishing to apply must submit their application online by March 23rd, 2026.
