On June 27, at 10 a.m., the “Galileo Galilei” Aula Magna at Palazzo del Bo in Padua will host the national event “The 20th Anniversary of the European Charter for Researchers. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow: a journey toward improvement.”

The event aims to celebrate 20 years since the publication of the first European Charter for Researchers and to review the developments that led to the adoption, in December 2023, of the Council of Europe’s recommendation known as the “New European Charter for Researchers.”

The morning sessions will describe the evolution of the Charter’s implementation in Italy up to the present day, with particular focus on the key role played by the recognition of an institution’s commitment and progress through the HRS4R Award (HR Strategy for Researchers). The European Research Council (ERC) today announced the winners of the 2024 Advanced Grants call, one of the most prestigious and competitive funding schemes for research at the international level. Since 2007, the European Union has supported frontier research through the ERC, promoting innovative and high-impact projects.

With approximately €11 million awarded to four Principal Investigators (PIs) affiliated with the University of Padua, the institution ranks first in Italy for the number of projects selected in this edition, once again confirming its position of excellence in the national research landscape.

Two of the winning PIs from the University of Padua, Lucia Gemma Delogu and Fabrizio Nestola, work in the field of Physical Sciences and Engineering, while the other two, Marco Sandri and Ildikò Szabò, are active in the Life Sciences.

The European Research Council (ERC) today announced the winners of the 2024 Advanced Grants call, one of the most prestigious and competitive funding schemes for research at the international level. Since 2007, the European Union has supported frontier research through the ERC, promoting innovative and high-impact projects.

With approximately €11 million awarded to four Principal Investigators (PIs) affiliated with the University of Padua, the institution ranks first in Italy for the number of projects selected in this edition, once again confirming its position of excellence in the national research landscape.

Two of the winning PIs from the University of Padua, Lucia Gemma Delogu and Fabrizio Nestola, work in the field of Physical Sciences and Engineering, while the other two, Marco Sandri and Ildikò Szabò, are active in the Life Sciences.

This is an outstanding result, confirming both the quality and originality of the research carried out at the University and the ongoing commitment of its academic staff to pioneering work capable of competing successfully on a European scale.

Il Consiglio Europeo della Ricerca (European Research Council, ERC) ha reso noti oggi i vincitori e le vincitrici della call Advanced Grants 2024, uno degli strumenti di finanziamento alla ricerca più prestigiosi e competitivi a livello internazionale. Dal 2007, l’Unione Europea sostiene attraverso l’ERC la ricerca di frontiera, promuovendo progetti innovativi e ad alto impatto.

Con circa 11 milioni di euro assegnati a quattro Principal Investigator (PI) afferenti all’Università di Padova, l’Ateneo si posiziona al primo posto in Italia per numero di progetti selezionati in questa edizione, confermando così il proprio ruolo di eccellenza nel panorama nazionale della ricerca scientifica.

Due dei Principal Investigator dell’Ateneo patavino che hanno ottenuto il finanziamento si collocano nell’ambito Scienze fisiche e Ingegneria, Lucia Gemma Delogu e Fabrizio Nestola, gli altri due nell’ambito Scienze della Vita, Marco Sandri e Ildikò Szabò.

Si tratta di un risultato straordinario, che conferma la qualità e l’originalità della ricerca svolta in Ateneo e la costante attenzione per le ricerche più innovative che contraddistingue il personale docente, capace di competere con successo a livello europeo.

I progetti finanziati presso istituzioni italiane sono in tutto 25, mentre sono 37 quelli vinti da cittadini italiani se si include anche chi opera all’estero. L’Italia, dunque, si colloca in un ottimo terzo posto per numero di grant ottenuti, mentre i PI di nazionalità italiana sono secondi per numero, dopo quelli tedeschi e prima di quelli del Regno Unito.

Si tratta di un risultato straordinario, che conferma la qualità e l’originalità della ricerca svolta in Ateneo e la costante attenzione per le ricerche più innovative che contraddistingue il personale docente, capace di competere con successo a livello europeo.

I progetti finanziati presso istituzioni italiane sono in tutto 25, mentre sono 37 quelli vinti da cittadini italiani se si include anche chi opera all’estero. L’Italia, dunque, si colloca in un ottimo terzo posto per numero di grant ottenuti, mentre i PI di nazionalità italiana sono secondi per numero, dopo quelli tedeschi e prima di quelli del Regno Unito.

Il Consiglio Europeo della Ricerca (European Research Council, ERC) ha reso noti oggi i vincitori e le vincitrici della call Advanced Grants 2024, uno degli strumenti di finanziamento alla ricerca più prestigiosi e competitivi a livello internazionale. Con circa 11 milioni di euro assegnati a quattro Principal Investigator (PI) afferenti all’Università di Padova, l’Ateneo si posiziona al primo posto in Italia per numero di progetti selezionati in questa edizione, confermando così il proprio ruolo di eccellenza nel panorama nazionale della ricerca scientifica.

Il Consiglio Europeo della Ricerca (European Research Council, ERC) ha reso noti oggi i vincitori e le vincitrici della call Advanced Grants 2024, uno degli strumenti di finanziamento alla ricerca più prestigiosi e competitivi a livello internazionale. Dal 2007, l’Unione Europea sostiene attraverso l’ERC la ricerca di frontiera, promuovendo progetti innovativi e ad alto impatto.

Con circa 11 milioni di euro assegnati a quattro Principal Investigator (PI) afferenti all’Università di Padova, l’Ateneo si posiziona al primo posto in Italia per numero di progetti selezionati in questa edizione, confermando così il proprio ruolo di eccellenza nel panorama nazionale della ricerca scientifica.

Due dei Principal Investigator dell’Ateneo patavino che hanno ottenuto il finanziamento si collocano nell’ambito Scienze fisiche e Ingegneria, Lucia Gemma Delogu e Fabrizio Nestola, gli altri due nell’ambito Scienze della Vita, Marco Sandri e Ildikò Szabò.

Si tratta di un risultato straordinario, che conferma la qualità e l’originalità della ricerca svolta in Ateneo e la costante attenzione per le ricerche più innovative che contraddistingue il personale docente, capace di competere con successo a livello europeo.

I progetti finanziati presso istituzioni italiane sono in tutto 25, mentre sono 37 quelli vinti da cittadini italiani se si include anche chi opera all’estero. L’Italia, dunque, si colloca in un ottimo terzo posto per numero di grant ottenuti, mentre i PI di nazionalità italiana sono secondi per numero, dopo quelli tedeschi e prima di quelli del Regno Unito.

«Questo risultato è motivo di grande soddisfazione per l’intera comunità dell’Università di Padova, che si conferma punto di riferimento nazionale e internazionale per la ricerca scientifica di frontiera. Voglio complimentarmi con Lucia Gemma Delogu, Fabrizio Nestola, Marco Sandri e Ildikò Szabò, che con competenza e visione hanno ottenuto uno dei riconoscimenti più prestigiosi e competitivi nell'ambito della ricerca europea. Ogni progetto vincente rappresenta non solo un traguardo personale di eccellenza, ma un contributo tangibile al ruolo che l’Università di Padova intende esercitare nella società: generare conoscenza capace di trasformare il mondo. Dall’ingegneria dei materiali alla mineralogia, dalla fisiologia muscolare alla biologia cellulare, i temi al centro di questi progetti dimostrano quanto sia strategico continuare a investire nella ricerca libera e rigorosa - continua Daniela Mapelli -. L’Europa ha deciso di farlo: l’Università di Padova dimostra di essere pienamente all’altezza della sfida. La ricerca di eccellenza non è un privilegio di pochi, ma un bene collettivo, un motore di sviluppo sostenibile, culturale e umano. Oggi, più che mai, è nostro dovere difenderla, sostenerla e valorizzarla». 

«Questo risultato consolida e rinforza l’andamento molto positivo dell’Università di Padova nel Pilastro dell’Eccellenza di Horizon Europe, nel quale si inseriscono le call ERC - conclude Fabio Zwirner, prorettore con delega alla Ricerca -. Proprio nel contesto competitivo di questi bandi è stato raggiunto l’importante risultato di 37 progetti finanziati, che confermano la vocazione del nostro Ateneo per la ricerca di frontiera».
