The symbolic power of sport meets the theme of human rights in CONFINE, a site-specific installation on display in the Cortile Antico of Palazzo del Bo until 23 February. The project invites reflection on the meanings of limits, borders and coexistence in the contemporary world.
At the heart of the installation are the three Olympic torches from Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022 and Paris 2024, symbols of encounters between cultures and of a universal ideal of peace.
Created specifically for the Cortile Antico, the installation envelops the space in the golden reflections of dozens of thermal blankets. These same sheets, used by athletes at the end of competitions and by migrants who have survived shipwrecks, become here a powerful metaphor for human resilience, the ability to endure, and the courage required to face the unknown.
CONFINE is conceived as a visual and sensory journey that explores the theme of rights from a deeply human perspective: the need to put oneself on the line in order to overcome personal limits and those imposed by life’s circumstances. In this context, sport becomes a universal language and a symbolic tool for portraying a humanity on the move, in search of itself and of a shared future.
For two months, the courtyard space is thus transformed into a scenic backdrop where Olympism becomes a metaphor for dialogue, inclusion and collective responsibility, inviting the public to reflect on the value of peace and the respect for fundamental rights, now more than ever at the center of the global debate.
