The special event dedicated to supporters who contribute to the development and growth of the University of Padua is back again this year.

The Donor Event will take place on Tuesday 9 December 2025, at 5.30 p.m., in the Aula Magna of Palazzo del Bo, in Via VIII Febbraio, 2, in the presence of the Rector and with the participation of Marco Paolini, who will present an excerpt from his show Bestiario Idrico.

Nothing we see is definitive. Climate change forces us to consider radical transformations of the landscapes we know: we can either endure them or choose them. In Italy there are more than 6,000 rivers, and many more waterways that have no official name yet belong to hydrographic basins. Europe has 110 hydrographic basins, 7 of which are in Italy. Each contains hundreds of watercourses, more or less significant, but all strategically important as potential reserves—just as groundwater is—within the national water balance.
The Atlas of the Riverbanks is the treasure map of the groundwater hidden beneath our feet; it is an album of photographs and postcards of Italy’s water bodies; it is a registry that records the name, life, death, and wonders of every watercourse; it is a sticker album of hydronyms to collect in class; it is a network-system of phone booths on riverbanks to speak with the rivers; it is civic theatre that, through workshops, choirs, storytellers, and nonverbal actions, gives voice to the landscape that tells the story of life.

At the end of the event, closing remarks will be given by the Deputy Rector, Antonio Parbonetti.

The event is open to donors and to everyone supporting the University.
Registration is required.

On the occasion of this event, it is possible to contribute—through a donation—to the establishment of graduation awards focused on the relationship between water and human health. Donate now

Donate now

With 26 approved projects, the University of Padua ranks first in Italy for funding received under FIS3, the Italian Science Fund 2024-25. The competitive procedure for the development of fundamental research activities evaluated projects from all research areas pertaining to the macro-sectors and scientific-disciplinary sectors determined by the ERC, with particular attention to interdisciplinary projects that cross the boundaries between different research fields, pioneering projects that address new and emerging research areas, and projects that introduce innovative unconventional approaches and/or scientific inventions.

The funded projects from the University of Padua, totalling approximately 33.5 million euros, cover all three macro-sectors envisaged by FIS3: 9 projects for LS (Life Sciences), 9 for PE (Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Information and Communication, Engineering, Universe and Earth Sciences), and 8 for SH (Social Sciences and Humanities).

"The outcome of the FIS3 call represents a recognition that makes us deeply proud as an academic community. The 26 selected projects testify to the quality of the research that develops every day in our University: research that stems from the curiosity, dedication, and ability of our researchers to question the present to boldly imagine the world of tomorrow," emphasises Daniela Mapelli, Rector of the University of Padua. "This result, which confirms the vitality of our scientific community, rewards many departments and confirms one of the most precious characteristics of the University of Padua: its authentic multidisciplinarity. A cultural heritage that allows every field of knowledge to grow and strengthen, contributing to a broad and forward-thinking vision of the great scientific and social challenges that the future poses to us. Research is our most powerful infrastructure: it generates knowledge, fuels innovation, enables us to respond to societal needs and, above all, to anticipate them. In a time of rapid change, investing in research means believing in the collective ability to build new and sustainable solutions, capable of improving the future for everyone."

"Heartfelt congratulations to the winners of this challenging and prestigious competition!" comments Fabio Zwirner, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Padua. "In addition to their individual merits, this collective success also rewards the University's decades-long commitment to promoting and supporting the project work of its researchers and attracting additional talent from outside, particularly young people, supported by the competence and dedication of the research support office staff".

For the first time in the Veneto region, an asymptomatic lung nodule has been diagnosed and removed thanks to cutting-edge technology available at the Padua University Hospital. Ours is the only hospital in the region—and one of very few in Italy—that can rely on two hybrid operating rooms equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation.

The patient was a 75-year-old woman who underwent surgery performed by the professional staff of the Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery Units. After this patient—who first came to the emergency department in July following an accidental injury—four additional similar procedures have been successfully carried out in the hybrid room, each involving integrated diagnosis and treatment of lung nodules.

Lung cancer in its early stages is indeed asymptomatic: often, a nodule is detected by chance. In recent years, the number of people requiring care has unfortunately increased, making screening essential. If the tumor is identified at an early stage, the patient can benefit from definitive surgical treatment.

In one year, the Pneumology Unit performs an average of 2,600 respiratory endoscopies, while the Thoracic Surgery Unit has already completed 21 procedures in the hybrid room, with a one-hundred-percent success rate.
