Recent technological advances have opened up new possibilities in the study of the behavior of neural populations. Such technology allows researchers to study the organization of neural populations through the concept of networks that facilitates the exchange of information in the form of electrochemical signals, which are essential for cognitive performance such as memory, attention, and language.
Those who have suffered from a cerebral stroke may experience alteration in the organization of these networks. This alteration may occur through the disconnection of groups of directly affected neurons as well as through changes to the signal used to exchange information, even if neural populations are not directly involved in the damage. The level of disconnection and alteration is related to the degree of behavioral impairment in patients.

Recent technological advances have opened up new possibilities in the study of the behavior of neural populations. Such technology allows researchers to study the organization of neural populations through the concept of networks that facilitates the exchange of information in the form of electrochemical signals, which are essential for cognitive performance such as memory, attention, and language.
Those who have suffered from a cerebral stroke may experience alteration in the organization of these networks. This alteration may occur through the disconnection of groups of directly affected neurons as well as through changes to the signal used to exchange information, even if neural populations are not directly involved in the damage. The level of disconnection and alteration is related to the degree of behavioral impairment in patients.
Funded by Horizon ERC Synergy, the project aims to better understand changes in brain networks after a stroke, both at the microscopic (cellular signaling) and macroscopic (alterations in neural networks) levels. This knowledge will be used to develop a digital model of each patient's brain, and to identify the optimal strategy to restore brain organization through brain stimulation. The digitally identified model will then be applied in a clinical trial on stroke patients.

The launch of the Nemesis project - "Neurological Mechanisms of Injury And Sleep-Like Cellular Dynamics", which investigates the mechanisms of the human brain, will be held at the Palazzo Bo on 20 December. Financed with 10M euros by the Horizon ERC Synergy call, the project sees Prof Maurizio Corbetta as its principal investigator.
Recent technological advances have opened up new possibilities in the study of the behavior of neural populations. Such technology allows researchers to study the organization of neural populations through the concept of networks that facilitates the exchange of information in the form of electrochemical signals, which are essential for cognitive performance such as memory, attention, and language.
Those who have suffered from a cerebral stroke may experience alteration in the organization of these networks. This alteration may occur through the disconnection of groups of directly affected neurons as well as through changes to the signal used to exchange information, even if neural populations are not directly involved in the damage. The level of disconnection and alteration is related to the degree of behavioral impairment in patients.
Funded by Horizon ERC Synergy, the project aims to better understand changes in brain networks after a stroke, both at the microscopic (cellular signaling) and macroscopic (alterations in neural networks) levels. This knowledge will be used to develop a digital model of each patient's brain, and to identify the optimal strategy to restore brain organization through brain stimulation. The digitally identified model will then be applied in a clinical trial on stroke patients.
The launch of the project takes place on 20 December at 4.30 p.m. in the Ancient Archive room of Palazzo Bo. The project launch is open to the public and welcomes lecturers Gustavo Deco (Center for Brain and Cognition - Universitat Pompeu Fabra), Marcello Massimini (Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences "L. Sacco" - University of Milan), Maurizio Corbetta (Department of Neurosciences of the University degli Studi di Padova), and Maria Victoria Sanchez-Vives (Consorci Institut D'investigacions Biomediques August Pi I Sunyer).
