Quartz, topaz, emeralds, gold, and gemstones

The University Museum of Mineralogy houses a rich collection of mineral samples, including heavily mined and often depleted pieces from metal deposits within Italy and abroad.  The collection holds pieces found in impervious mountain locations where, even today, mineral hunters adventure in search of such precious “rock crystals”.

Minerals are all around us, they are the foundation below our feet and the forming structure of our bones and teeth. Minerals are the storyteller of Earth’s history, accompanying us throughout human evolution while reminding us of their fundamental value as a resource towards the future.

Help us ensure that this invaluable mineral collection remains preserved for future generations to enjoy.
