Silvestre Gristina (Palermo, 24/02/1994) received his Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Padua in June 2023 with a dissertation on the legacy of J. G. Fichte’s philosophy in the Young Hegelians’ and Marx’s philosophical-political thought. He worked at the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies in Naples and is currently a Postdoc Fellow at the University of Ferrara. His areas of specialization are the history of modern and contemporary German philosophy, the Vormärz philosophical-political elaboration, and the history of 20th-century Marxism.
He will carry out his MSCA GF project THiMe at the FISPPA Department under the supervision of Prof. Gaetano Rametta. In the outgoing phase he will be supervised by Prof. Massimiliano Tomba at the History of Consciousness Department, University of California, Santa Cruz. His project aims to contribute to the studies on the critique of the Western Canon, through specific reflection on the History of Philosophy and its political nature. Inquiring concepts and philosophical historiographies as polemical products of socio-political historical conjunctures, THiMe’s objective is to produce a new methodology of the History of Philosophy and Political Thought, capable of deconstructing and rethinking the consolidated canon that determines the way the History of Philosophy is taught and studied nowadays.
