Suman Das is a researcher specializing in organometallic chemistry and catalysis, with expertise in fluorine chemistry, hypervalent iodine chemistry, and metal-based catalysis. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Calcutta before completing his Ph.D. at IIT Hyderabad under Prof. Tarun K. Panda. During his doctoral research, he was a visiting researcher at Osaka University in Japan, working on reactive cationic metal complexes for C-H activation.
He then pursued postdoctoral research at IIT Bombay (2021–2022) with Prof. Maheswaran Shanmugam, focusing on f-block metal complexes and cobalt-catalysed CO₂ conversion. At the University of Nottingham (2022–present) under Prof. Miriam O'Duill, he has developed novel hypervalent iodine reagents and metal-free fluorination methods.
In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship and will join the University of Padova under Prof. Manuel Orlandi. His research will focus on developing chiral Cu, Ag, and Au-based catalysts for asymmetric synthesis.
Beyond research, dr. Das actively mentors Ph.D. and Master’s students and contributes to research proposal development. His work aims to advance sustainable and efficient catalytic methodologies in organic chemistry.
