How does enrolment in Medicina e Chirurgia – Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria – Medicina Veterinaria degree programmes work?

Starting from a.y. 2025/2026, to access the degree programmes in Medicina e Chirurgia, Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria, Medicina Veterinaria, enrolment in an open semester will be required.

The open semester will be an initial training period lasting about three months to which one can be admitted to the degree programme with no initial entrance test. The final exams of the open semester will be held at the end of the semester.

What is the open semester?
During the open semester, all enrolled students attend three common courses:
- chemistry and biochemistry propaedeutics
- physics
- biology

The final exams for the three courses will be uniform in all Italian Universities. Only those who pass all the required exams and obtain all the required CFUs/ECTS (18 in total, 6 for each exam taken) will be able to compete in the national ranking to enter the next semester.
The open semester begins on September 1, 2025.

How are classes held?
Classes at the University of Padua will be held exclusively online, in synchronous mode; information on the organization of classes, attendance tracking, and attendance arrangements will be provided shortly.

How are the exams conducted?
The exams are held at the same time, in all of the Italian Universities, on paper, and are identical for all. They consist of three tests - one for each of the common courses - to be answered in 45 minutes. There are 15 multiple-choice questions and 16 completion questions (to be filled in with only one correct word in the space provided) for each test.

Two exam dates are scheduled: on November 20 and December 10, 2025.
A grade greater than or equal to 18/30 in all three tests is required in order to enter the national rankings. Only if admitted it will be possible to continue with the degree programme of study one intends to take.

How to enrol in Padua?

You will need to register on the Universitaly website (https://www.universitaly.it) starting on June 23 and by 5 p.m. on July 25, 2025, selecting the University of Padua as your first choice among the 10 universities to be selected.
In addition to the chosen universities, one will have to select a related degree programme, among those identified in the ministerial decrees, in which to enrol in case one fails to be admitted into the degree programmes of Medicina e Chirurgia, Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria or Medicina Veterinaria.
At the time of enrolment, at least 10 seat preferences for Medicina e Chirurgia/Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria/Medicina Veterinaria and at least 10 seat preferences for the related degree programme chosen must be indicated.

Once you have completed the process on Universitaly, you will need to register on the University of Padua website again by 5 p.m. on July 25, paying flat registration fee of €250.
