OVERVIEW
The international inter-university master's degree in Digital Humanities per la critica dei testi e dei documenti – Humanités numériques pour la critique des textes et des sources is a joint degree offered by the University of Padua and the University of Tours (France). It is the only joint degree for the LM-43 degree class involving an Italian institution and the first course of study in Digital Humanities with a strong philological focus, aimed primarily at training "digital philologists". The course provides interdisciplinary skills covering the humanities (textual scholarship, literature, and history/archival studies) and computer science. It lasts two years: the first year takes place in Tours, the second in Padua, with a co-supervised thesis. The first-year courses are taught in French and focus mainly on computer science subjects; the second-year courses are taught in Italian and focus mainly on humanities subjects. Some of the courses may be taught in English.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The degree programme guarantees high employability in the cultural and technological sectors, both in the public and private domains. Students acquire theoretical and technical-practical tools to work in digital libraries, archives, digital publishing, and research projects. The course can be continued with a PhD (particularly in the humanities, where IT skills are increasingly sought after). The course mainly, but not exclusively, trains students to become: digital scientific publishers; computational text and corpus analysts; specialists in the digitisation and preservation of cultural heritage; consultants for digital transformation in the cultural sector; designers of digital cultural platforms; editors of native digital and non-digital content. The above-mentioned professionals can find employment in Italy and abroad: in academia and research; in companies specialising in IT services for the humanities; in companies involved in the digitisation of cultural heritage; in public or private conservation institutions (libraries, archives, foundations, etc.); and in publishing houses.
