Why did you choose the University of Padua and the Food Industry Engineering degree programme? How did you learn about our institution?
I chose the University of Padua and the Food Industry Engineering degree programme because it offered the perfect combination of academic excellence, research opportunities, and industrial relevance. Coming from Bangladesh with a background in Food Science and Technology, I was searching for a programme that could deepen my expertise in food safety and processing while also preparing me for a global career. UniPD’s long-standing academic reputation, along with its focus on innovation and sustainability in food systems, made it an ideal choice.
I learned about the University of Padua through international academic networks and university ranking platforms. What truly impressed me was the curriculum structure of the Food Industry Engineering programme, which integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications through lab work, industrial collaborations, and a thesis project. Additionally, the availability of a departmental scholarship and the university’s strong support system for international students played a key role in my decision.
My experience at UniPD has been enriching both academically and personally. Professors are approachable and highly knowledgeable, and the learning environment is dynamic and supportive. What are the main features of your degree programme?
The master's degree in Food Industry Engineering at the University of Padua prepares students to design, manage, and innovate processes, plants, and services in the food industry, with a strong focus on safety, hygiene, and sustainability. A key feature of the programme is the integration of safety management with machine design, process development, and unit operations, ensuring product quality, contamination control, and traceability. Sustainability and the technical, economic, and social aspects of food production are emphasized throughout the course.
The programme is highly interdisciplinary, combining Food Hygiene, Microbiology, Food Packaging and Food Processing including machinery and Management System, and is taught entirely in English through blended learning (a mix of in-person and online). Students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to food processing, preservation technologies, automation, industrial risk management, and supply chain traceability.
Graduates can work in food production companies, managing transformation processes and quality systems, or in companies manufacturing machinery and systems for the food sector, focusing on advanced design and automation. Opportunities also exist in distribution and logistics companies, managing cold chains, hygienic design, and innovative traceability solutions. Additionally, graduates can work in consultancy firms that focus on sustainable food systems, block chain for traceability, Industry 4.0 applications, and food safety for retail and delivery platforms. The programme offers a strong scientific and technological foundation, preparing students for diverse roles across the global food industry.
Is there any subject/class that has stood out to you so far?
Two subjects that have particularly stood out to me are Food Hygiene-Food Microbiology and Food Packaging. These courses offers a deep theoretical understanding of the principles and regulations that govern food safety across the production chain along with packaging production and maintenance of green environment according materials.
The course content focuses on microbiological risks, foodborne hazards, industrial hygiene practices, and international safety standards such as HACCP, polymer science in packaging, packaging material selection and their effects according to food. I found them very interesting how closely food hygiene is linked to every stage of production, from raw material handling to finished product distribution and how our daily life related with the packaged food in different state.
What advice would you give to prospective students when it comes to preparing a successful application?
First choose which course you want to take and how it relates with your previous background. After choosing your subject try to search which language is available for you. Make your documents ready for applications like CV and SOP. Try to catch the 1st Call to apply which can increase your chance to get here. Always try to explain everything in your CV as it will work here as your representative. Do not shy to include the work which makes you learn real-life experiences.
