Meet Mari Diana

About myself

I'm an active person, who loves traveling and challenges, which is why I came to Italy in 2017 as an au pair. I loved Italy and thought that it would be nice to study here. Psychology was something that I had always been interested in and fortunately, I found the University of Padova, which provided a Bachelor's degree in general psychology, completely held in English. Through the years and my studies I've fallen in love with Italy and with the Clinical, Social and Intercultural Psychology course. I just found the Master's degree that deeply addressed my interests. I am particularly interested in working with children and young people, and promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable development and inclusiveness in various educational and work environments. I feel like this degree gives me the right tools to proceed in the field of my interests.

What do you like the most about the Clinical, Social and Intercultural Psychology degree programme? Why would you recommend it to other students?

The Clinical, Social and Intercultural Psychology degree programme is a versatile and unique programme. Its emphasis on both clinical and social/cultural aspects of psychology is rare although useful in modern-day society. With globalization and high mobility of people our world is becoming more and more interconnected which is why the impact of culture on psychological functioning should not be ignored. One of the biggest strengths of this course is how multicultural the class is, which adds great value to class conversations combined with the theoretical framework and tools provided by professors.

Is there any class/subject that stood out to you?

I personally loved the Psychology of Inclusion and Social Sustainability course which brought together a previous interest of mine in this topic, clear new information about it and great practical examples of interventions promoting inclusion. Additionally, I found the Personnel Psychology and Cross-Cultural Issues course practical and interesting

Have you taken part in any internships, laboratories, workshops or similar activities within your academic path? If so, how do they add to your overall university experience?

During my Bachelor’s degree I completed my internship with Professor U. Moscardino and other colleagues, by taking part in a cultural adaptation process of a psychosocial intervention called “The Identity Project”. The project was furthermore the topic of my final dissertation. Now, during my Master’s degree I am participating in an Erasmus+ project promoting open and inclusive educational resources.

What advice would you give to potential students thinking of studying in Italy?

I would 100% recommend studying at the University of Padova. To best enjoy the experience I would recommend learning some Italian before coming to Italy and continuing while here. This will help you on a daily basis but also it will definitely help you to enjoy more and make the most of the experience.

Tell me a bit about student life in Italy. What do you do for fun? What are your favourite places to spend time?

The student life in Padova is lively and there are bars, cafes and restaurants in every corner. For me the best sensation is to sit down in a central bar with some friends, have a coffee or a cold drink and just relax, enjoy the atmosphere, the people passing by and the company. The centre is quite small so you can walk or bike anywhere which saves time but also offers a great possibility to feel the charismatic vibe of Padova, the Italian dream.
My favourite places in the city are the Tre Quarti bar in Piazza della Frutta (heart-warming place at any time of the day with lovely staff always ready to greet you with a smile a and match your cravings), Prato della Valle (great for picnics, a walk with a friend or a workout), Piazza dei Signori (sitting in one of the many bars and just enjoying the vibe and the beautiful astronomical clock), Parco Iris (a big park suitable for picnics, walks, reading a book, working out etc.) and Euganean Hills (Colli Euganei in Italian) which are located only 15km from Padova and are a great place for hiking, to enjoy nature and stunning views.
