Meet Johannes

About myself

Having made multiple experiences working abroad while also studying for my Bachelor's degree in Communication Psychology in Germany, I decided I want to focus on intercultural aspects of Psychology in my graduate degree – UNIPD was a perfect choice for that. My name is Johannes and I love to travel, especially via hitchhiking, getting to know different people, and experiencing different realities and minds along the way. I love to read and learn about the human mind and I am curious about how these learnings help us make our and other people's lives more enjoyable. I enjoy moving, either on a walk through the city, on the dance floor, or during a Capoeira game.

What I really appreciate about my programme is that it offers me a great space to connect with like-minded people from all over the world, to discover this beautiful and interesting field together, while at the same time making strong interpersonal connections and bonds. Studying intercultural aspects of Psychology in an intercultural group just makes total sense and gave us the opportunity to learn about the human mind and human interactions – not only within the classroom but especially outside of it.

    Student life in Padova

Life in Padova as a student is just great: it feels like the town is tailored to the needs of many of us, which makes the quality of life for me very high. Personally, I find the vibe here pretty international and you will find a lot of places where people speak English. I love the bars and cafes, in which you can enjoy sitting outside even during the winter months reflecting with wonderful people about what is going on in your life and integrating all these intense experiences. Besides that, the international vibe also shows on a cultural level – from reggae nights at CSO Pedro, world music jam sessions at Il Vizio Pub, Capoeira and Salsa Lessons – you can fully enjoy yourself, grow, connect and find love wherever you go.

    Lab activities & Field Trips

Even though UNIPD and Padova are beautiful and make you want to stay longer, they also open a lot of doors, letting you fly wherever you want.
I really enjoyed becoming a part of EFPSA (European Federation of Psychology Students' Associations) through connections I made in Padova, visiting congresses and summer schools in Cyprus, Portugal and Finland. Through my work at EFPSA, together with a good friend and colleague I implemented an experiential learning module about various topics relevant for first year students of our program, to make the early stage in Padova a bit smoother and more enjoyable for everyone and to create meaningful connections through mutual learning.
Beyond that, I went to Serbia to represent UNIPD and our program and to integrate it into an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, offered by more than four European universities. This trip made me realize again, how much potential lies in the combination of Psychology and cultural aspects and how special this offer is for international students.
Right now I am packing my bags to leave for a research internship at Cyprus University, where I will work with refugees, investigating contemporary psychological interventions in that field and write my thesis. I am looking forward to being back in Padova soon and to seeing all the new faces. Let’s go.
