Meet Het

About myself

Namaste, Everyone! I'm Het from India, currently pursuing my master's in Management Engineering at the University of Padua. My journey here has been a thrilling experience, filled with both challenges and growth. Adapting to a new academic and cultural environment was initially tough, but over time, I've found my rhythm and gained invaluable skills. UniPd has helped me develop both academically and personally, shaping my approach to problem-solving and leadership. Through every struggle, I've learned the importance of perseverance and resilience, and I'm excited to continue this journey, embracing all the opportunities that come my way.

Why did you choose the University of Padua and the Management Engineering degree programme? Why would you recommend it to other students?

I chose the University of Padua and the Management Engineering degree programme because it perfectly aligns with my career aspirations. Management Engineering is a unique field that bridges the gap between traditional engineering and management practices, offering a strategic approach to solving complex problems. Unlike typical engineering degrees or MBA programmes, it equips graduates with the skills needed to make a significant impact in engineering practices from a management perspective. The curriculum at UniPd is an ideal blend of technical and strategic subjects, which are crucial in today’s competitive environment. The university’s long-standing reputation and rich history further made it an attractive choice. I would highly recommend this program to other students who are passionate about combining engineering expertise with strategic management skills, as it provides a strong foundation for excelling in diverse industries.

What are the main features of your degree programme?

The programme provides advanced skills to design and manage complex systems, focusing on technical, organizational, and economic aspects. It offers two curricula-one emphasizing business processes and the other digital transformation. Students gain practical experience through an internship leading to a thesis, enhancing their problem-solving and innovation abilities.

Is there any class/subject that has stood out to you so far?

For me there is not only one but two subjects which stood out for me, one is Smart Operation and Supply Chain Management and another one is Strategy and Digital Transformation. The reason behind this two is that they align well with what industry requires as management engineering and what we are studying. I like how the exam is being taken for this as the exam is not only theoretical but the blend of practical learning.

Is there any advice you could give to prospective students when it comes to submitting their application?

When submitting your application, tailor it to align with the program’s focus on engineering management and socio-technical systems. Highlight relevant experiences, both academic and professional, emphasizing your analytical and leadership skills. Clearly articulate your career goals and how they connect with the programme’s objectives. Ensure your statement of purpose and CV reflect your interest in digital transformation or business processes, depending on your chosen curriculum. Strong recommendation letters and language proficiency evidence, particularly for the English track, will further strengthen your application.

What advice would you give to potential students thinking of studying in Italy?

Studying in Italy offers a rich cultural and academic experience, but preparation is key. Learn some basic Italian phrases—they help immensely in daily interactions and integrating into the community. The cost of living in cities like Padova is moderate; plan your budget for housing, food, and transport. Explore local markets for affordable meals and consider cycling, which is popular in Padova. Engage with local and international students to build a support network. Finally, immerse yourself in Italy’s history, art, and cuisine—it enriches your educational journey and broadens your perspective.

Tell me a bit about student life in Italy. What do you do for fun and what are your favourite places to spend time?

Student life in Italy, especially in a city like Padova, is vibrant and culturally enriching. For fun, students often gather in historic piazzas, like Piazza delle Erbe or Prato della Valle, where they can socialize, enjoy street food, or relax in beautiful surroundings. Exploring Padova's botanical gardens, visiting museums, or taking day trips to nearby cities such as Venice and Verona are popular activities. Evenings often involve aperitivo (pre-dinner socializing), and there are plenty of cafes and bars to enjoy. Festivals and university events also offer great opportunities to meet people and experience Italian culture.
