Told – Tales of Local Development, a student collective born within the Master’s programme in Local Development at the University of Padua, is organising two film forum evenings on September 25 and 26, with the patronage of the University of Padua.
The first screening, on September 25 at 7:30 PM at Teatro Ruzante in Padua, will feature the documentary “Purpose” (subtitled in English), which follows the journey of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, an international network that encourages governments to go beyond GDP as the sole indicator of progress and to build economies where the wellbeing of people and the planet is the true priority. Through interviews and discussions with policymakers, the film shows how citizens and communities can co-design a future where prosperity is measured in terms of health, equity, and sustainability.
The second evening, on September 26 in room STO1 in Via del Vescovado 30 in Padua, will present “In cammino per l’acqua” (Walking for Water) subtitled in English, which tells the story of a group of citizens who marched from Trentino to Venice over eight days to deliver signatures to the Veneto Region against the construction of a dam in Val Cortella, one of the last wild valleys of the Alps. Through interviews and encounters along the way, the documentary conveys the strength of a travelling community that becomes the voice of a threatened ecosystem, listening not only to human voices but also to those of non-human species and the river itself.
Each screening will be followed by a discussion with guests from local organisations, offering an opportunity to reflect together on how to rethink the relationship between the economy, collective wellbeing, and the protection of territories. Told – Tales of Local Development, a student collective born within the Master’s programme in Local Development at the University of Padua, is organising two film forum evenings on September 25 and 26, with the patronage of the University of Padua.
The first screening, on September 25 at 7:30 PM at Teatro Ruzante in Padua, will feature the documentary “Purpose” (subtitled in English), which follows the journey of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, an international network that encourages governments to go beyond GDP as the sole indicator of progress and to build economies where the wellbeing of people and the planet is the true priority. Through interviews and discussions with policymakers, the film shows how citizens and communities can co-design a future where prosperity is measured in terms of health, equity, and sustainability.
The second evening, on September 26 in room STO1 in Via del Vescovado 30 in Padua, will present “In cammino per l’acqua” (Walking for Water) subtitled in English, which tells the story of a group of citizens who marched from Trentino to Venice over eight days to deliver signatures to the Veneto Region against the construction of a dam in Val Cortella, one of the last wild valleys of the Alps. Through interviews and encounters along the way, the documentary conveys the strength of a travelling community that becomes the voice of a threatened ecosystem, listening not only to human voices but also to those of non-human species and the river itself.
Each screening will be followed by a discussion with guests from local organisations, offering an opportunity to reflect together on how to rethink the relationship between the economy, collective wellbeing, and the protection of territories. Confirmed guests for the discussions include: Stella Catto and Marta Avesani (Economy for the Common Good); Marco Pavan (director of In cammino per l’acqua); and Francesco Vallerani (Ca’ Foscari University).
