The Executive Agency of the European Research Council (ERCEA) announced today the Principal Investigators selected under the ERC Consolidator Grants 2024 call, which allocates a total funding of 678 million euros to 328 excellent researchers across Europe.

The Executive Agency of the European Research Council (ERCEA) announced today the Principal Investigators selected under the ERC Consolidator Grants 2024 call, which allocates a total funding of 678 million euros to 328 excellent researchers across Europe.
Among the winners are two Principal Investigators who submitted their projects through the University of Padua: Guido De Philippis, currently a mathematics professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University (USA), and Davide Risso, an associate professor in the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Padua.
De Philippis, with funding of 1,655,000 euros, will conduct his mathematical research on geometric problems within the field of calculus of variations, while Risso will benefit from a budget of nearly 2 million euros to develop new computational methods to be applied to a cutting-edge technique in molecular biology.
The results of this ERC call confirm the competitiveness of the University of Padua, capable of excelling in highly prestigious international grants. With the recent results, the University of Padua maintains its first place in Italy for the total number of ERC grants funded by Horizon Europe. The ERC Consolidator Grant scheme supports ambitious scientific projects across all research disciplines, from engineering to life sciences to humanities, funding scientists in the consolidation phase of their careers and research groups.
