Alejandro Ciocci Pardo is a cardiovascular biologist with particular research interests in Ca2+ signalling and mitochondrial biology. He obtained his PhD in Natural Sciences from the National University of La Plata (UNLP) Argentina under the supervision of Prof. Susana M. Mosca. During his PhD studies, he mainly focused on the role of the Electrogenic Na+/HCO3cotransporter 1 and different Carbonic Anhydrase isoforms in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. He conducted his postdoctoral studies at the Cardiovascular Research Center – National University of La Plata (UNLP) – Argentinian National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) where he broadened his research interests to the participation of the soluble Adenylate Cyclase in myocardial function. He worked as an assistant professor at the Physiology Department – UNLP and as an assistant Researcher at the CONICET. In 2021, through the MSCA Seal of Excellence@UNIPD funding program, he joined Pizzo´s lab at the University of Padova to study the role of Presenilin 2 in cardiac physiology with a particular interest in myocardial Ca2+ handling and mitochondrial function. In 2022 he became Ricercatori a tempo determinato di tipo A (RTDA) at the Biomedical Sciences Department under the program PNRR Young Researchers – SOE and continued working on Presenilin 2, Ca2+, and mitochondrial relationship on heart physiopathology.
