Open semester
To access the degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics and Veterinary Medicine, it is necessary to enrol in an open semester, an initial training period lasting about three months, which can be accessed without any entrance test.
During the open semester, all enrolled students attend three common courses:
Chemistry and introductory biochemistry
Physics
Biology
At the end of the Open Semester, nationally standardised tests are held, which determine the formation of a national ranking, including everyone who has passed at least one test. Based on the ranking, assignments will be made by Cineca according to the preferences expressed.
Those who pass all three tests may proceed to enrol in the assigned degree programme.
Those who do not pass one or two tests must instead register for make-up exams at the assigned university and may enrol only after passing them.
Those who are included in the ranking but are not assigned to a university for one of the three degree programmes mentioned above may access one of the related degree programmes, again subject to assignment by Cineca.
In order to safeguard themselves in case they are not admitted to the main degree programmes, it is always preferable to take part in the ordinary selection procedures for the degree programmes of interest.
