Open semester
To access the degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics and Veterinary Medicine, it is necessary to enrol in an open semester, an initial training period lasting approximately three months, to which students may be admitted without any entrance test.
During the open semester, all enrolled students attend three common courses:
Chemistry and introductory biochemistry
Physics
Biology
At the end of the Open Semester, nationally standardised tests are held, which determine the formation of a national ranking, including everyone who has passed at least one test. Based on the ranking, Cineca will make the allocations according to the preferences expressed.
Those who pass all three tests may proceed to enrol on the assigned degree course.
Those who do not pass one or two tests must instead register for remedial exams at the assigned university and may enrol only after passing them.
Those who are included in the ranking but are not assigned to a university for one of the three degree courses mentioned above may access one of the related degree courses, again subject to assignment by Cineca.
In order to safeguard yourself in the event of non-admission to the main degree courses, it is always preferable to take part in the ordinary selection procedures for the courses you are interested in.
