This is the motto that has always characterized the University of Padua and that expresses the spirit of freedom of culture and expression that led a group of students and teachers to leave the University of Bologna for Padova, and which is still our inspiring principle.
In the name of Galileo
It is a group of students to found, more than eight centuries ago, one of the first universities in Europe: in 1222 the University of Padua was born which, in the course of its history, will see thegraduation of the first woman in the world Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia and succeed in the classrooms professors such as Galileo Galilei and Andrea Vesalio and students such as Francesco Guicciardini and Carlo Goldoni.
Today Padova is one of the largest Italian universities in terms of size and quality of its degree courses. In research, excellence is also recognized by the latest official Anvur evaluation, which awarded the University first place in the national ranking.
In addition to the 210 courses of study and the wide range of postgraduate degree courses, there is the Galilean School of Higher Studies, which guarantees a training course of excellence to those who pass a rigorous selection.

The latest QS ranking places us in the top 10% of European universities and in particular we record excellent results in the indicators, both within the European top 50, of the international reputation and quality of our research network
