Samuele Metti completed his master's degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Padova in 2018 and he obtained his PhD in Molecular Medicine at the University of Padova in 2023 under the supervision of Prof. Paolo Bonaldo. He is fascinated by skeletal muscle biology and his research activity mainly concerns the study of congenital muscular dystrophy characterized by the deficiency of Collagen VI, a distinctive extracellular matrix protein. During his PhD, he was awarded an EMBO short-term fellowship to join the laboratory of Prof. Gisou van der Goot at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Switzerland) to dissect how muscle stem cells sense Collagen VI. In 2024 he was awarded a Marie Curie Global Fellowship for the project MyoPALM consolidating his training at the EPFL and the University of Padova. This innovative project aims to dissect the role of a specific protein lipidation in normal and dystrophic skeletal muscle. By doing so, Samuele aims to lay the foundation for identifying novel druggable targets, thus paving the way for future therapeutic interventions to ameliorate the condition of patients affected by muscular dystrophy.
