Francesca Lorandi obtained her PhD in Molecular Sciences in 2018 at the University of Padua, working on exploiting electrochemical tools to mediate radical polymerizations, under the supervision of Prof. Gennaro. Later, she joined the group of Prof. Matyjaszewski at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA) as a postdoc, focusing on the development of more sustainable methods for triggering controlled radical polymerizations, and on the design of well-defined polymer electrolytes for post-Li-ion batteries. In 2020, she was included among the Future Faculty awardees by the Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering of the American Chemical Society. In 2021 she returned to the University of Padova in the group of Prof. Di Noto, working on fuel cell electrocatalysts and battery electrolytes. In 2022, she joined the Macromolecular and Organic Chemistry group of Prof. Benetti at the Department of Chemical Sciences as RTD-A. Her interests concern tailoring polymeric materials to modify their physicochemical properties and response. With the ION-MAN project, she aims at developing a new family of high-performing electrolytes for reversible Mg batteries based on polymerized ionic liquids. By understanding the relationships between polymer structure and Mg-ion conductivity, these rationally-designed electrolytes could enable safe and low-cost energy storage.
