Brief overview of the course

Characteristics and objectives
The MA Program prepares students to become social workers, more particularly training people to pursue peak positions in social service and policy planning and management. The Program’s essential focus is on social innovation in its various theoretical and practical aspects, and in the major operative domains. The aim is to train social workers as active role players in innovative social policy settings. This central focus involves providing advanced knowledge and building the capacity for good working practice in key sectors such as social policy, service planning and management, as well as on emergent social problems and trends, which are going to be crucial in the new landscape of welfare societies. For example, strong emphasis is placed upon such issues as social impact assessment, restorative justice, personalization and enablement through social services. It is also important to get to know European experiences. Thus, the Program emphasizes an international approach to issues and disciplines.

Occupational opportunities
The primary goal is to become a specialized social worker – after passing the required State exam.
The Program also offers valid training for other professional figures in the field of planning, managing and evaluating social policy and social services at various territorial levels – e.g. on the Regional and loca-municipal level – and in multiple organizational settings, in the public, private, and non profit sector.
