  • 2nd Call: 2 March - 2 May 2024
  • 3rd Call (ONLY EU and equated students): 2 June - 2 August 2024

The Mathematics master's degree course aims to provide a modern vision of mathematical knowledge and techniques in theoretical and applied fields. Primarily taught in English to ensure students acquire the linguistic skills needed for an international vocation. Students can obtain a double degree by completing their second year of study under one of the two recognized international consortiums. The ALGANT consortium involved the mathematics departments of European and non-European institutions including, Paris-Saclay (Orsay), Bordeaux, Duisburg-Essen, and Concordia (Montreal). The Mathematical Analysis and Probability PAris and PAdove (MAPPA) consortium is jointly operated by the University of Padua and the University of Paris Sciences & Lettres. The course includes a general curriculum delivered in Padua where students can follow various academic paths (applicative, educational, theoretical), and some international experience with the Erasmus programme is recommended.

Characteristics and objectives
This master's degree offers a wide range of specializations in the disciplines of mathematical area, either in pure mathematics or in the branches of applied mathematics, and relies scientific and professional contacts established by the teachers of the Department of Mathematics 'Tullio Levi-Civita'. Different training paths are possible, however formation tends to emphasize the methodological aspects in any field, in order to avoid the obsolescence of the acquired skills. The master's curriculum requires that any student acquires in-depth knowledge of current methodologies related to one or more specific areas of mathematics (presenting a personalized study plan, based on some general rules) and that he shows the competence achieved through an extensive work of preparation of the master's thesis. This final work represents almost a third of the overall commitment.

Occupational opportunities
The professional opportunities for those who obtain the Master's Degree in range from research, both in the public and private sectors, dissemination and application of mathematics into teams collaboration with experts from different fields, contributing with specific expertise and methodology to the mathematical formalization and resolutions of problems in economics or industrial applications. Their contribution is particularly sought in areas that require familiarity with scientific methods of investigation and deep understanding of mathematical tools such as, for example, modelling and analysis of complex systems. Mathematicians, thanks to their training, have the ability to face problems in a logical, analytical and creative way and have great adaptability and flexibility towards new ideas.
Typical areas of work, in addition to teaching in secondary schools and research at Universities and public or private centers, are financial, banking, insurance organizations, and in general whenever good skills are required for the development of model and the big data analytics.
