The health care assistant is a professional not directly involved in curing , but in preventing certain types of diseases (such as infectious, chronic-degenerative or occupational ones) and maintaining the health of the person as a whole. This course will allow you to acquire knowledge (concerning general medicine and specialist clinical, psycho-pedagogical, socio-health and organisational subjects) useful for the profession; its practical approach will allow you to understand how to identify health needs, to better plan health prevention and health promotion activities, also in relation to the social, cultural and environmental context. You will be able to enter the job market directly, mainly in public structures (but also in private ones) and acting in close collaboration with multiple professionals.

Characteristics and objectives
Health assistants are experts in health prevention, promotion and education, in compliance with the job description established by Italian Ministerial Decree no. 69 of 17/01/1997.
The activity of these professionals is directed at the individual, the family and the community, identifying the health needs and the priorities of preventive, educational and recovery intervention.
The health assistant does not deal with treating or rehabilitating a patient: his/her mission is aimed at maintaining the health of the person as a whole. It also consolidates its activities in the prevention of infectious and chronic degenerative diseases, as well as in the prevention of accidents and occupational diseases, the protection of maternal and child health, of the family and in school. It also collaborates in the organization and operation of health and social services, acting as a network operator for hospital-territory integration.
Through a structured, monitored, validated and optimized training course, the course combines knowledge of the basics of general medicine with a more in-depth preparation in those of hygienic-epidemiological, clinical, psycho-pedagogical, sociological, organizational, legislative and prevention, education and health promotion. Skills that allow you to understand and get to know the person in the different age phases and at the same time the complexity of the communities, as a social, cultural and environmental context.
Those who attend the course learn to identify the health needs of people and communities and will be able, at the end of their studies, to identify the need for promotional, preventive and educational interventions in this field and to be able to plan, implement and verify them. Acquires specific methodological and instrumental skills concerning the field of research and observation in the health, social and psychological fields in order to guide the identification with respect to biological and social risk factors in the field of health surveillance of the reference community and the planning and management of health promotion activities; it acts as an inter-professional and network link for the resolution of the problems identified for the individual and the community.

Occupational opportunities
Health assistants can practice their profession, performing functions independently, in the structures of the National Health Service, in private companies or institutes and foundations, as employees and / or freelancers.
In particular, they can find employment in the staff of the Directorate General and Health, in the Public Relations Offices, in the Prevention and Protection Services, in the Departments of hospitals, in the Corporate and Regional Epidemiological Services, in the Quality Services, in the Prevention Departments- Hygiene and public health services (vaccinations, health surveillance, cancer screening, sports medicine) - Hygiene prevention and workplace safety services, Food and nutrition hygiene services, Health education and promotion services, in the operating units / District services socio-health and in those oriented towards integrated social and health activities for elderly people with disabilities in children and adults. Those who have graduated can also practice their profession with general practitioners and / or pediatricians of free choice, in the territorial psychiatric services, in the family consultants, childhood and adolescence for family support, in the addiction services, in the pediatrics of community, in Diabetes Services, with the competent medical doctors of the public and private sectors.
Finally, they can find positions in foundations, in nursing homes (RSA), in the regional offices of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control, in the regional directorates of health planning, in penitentiary health, in the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL), in the Provincial Directorate of Labor.

From Bachelor’s degree to Master’s degree
This course provides for the continuation of studies with a master's degree course (LM / SNT4), according to the procedures indicated in the specific admission notices.
