Over the past century, mortality rates for both the mother and baby during childbirth have progressively decreased, also demonstrating the quality of health care delivered, which, in maternal and child wards, has the midwifery profession at the center as a professional dedicated not only to support and accompaniment from pregnancy and postpartum but also in sexual, reproductive, neonatal and gynecological areas. With this course, you will learn the fundamentals of the female anatomy, physiology, and the pathology of childbirth. The practical approach will prepare you in carrying out both natural and induced labour, and assist the infant and mother by supporting gynaecological interventions and performing any manoeuvers in case of emergency. The course allows you to enter the workforce in both public and private structures.

Characteristics and objectives
Students attending this course will acquire the skills to assist vaginal and induced deliveries, to take care of newborns and women during pregnancy, before and after delivery. They will acquire the necessary knowledge to assist the surgeon during cesarean section and gynecological operations. They cooperate in prevention and in diagnosis of gynecological cancer; they will learn to recognize potential dangerous health conditions that require medical intervention. Finally, they will acquire the skills to practice emergency procedures.

Occupational opportunities
The graduate will be able to work in public or private health facilities, as an employee or freelancer, and also carry out activities of study, teaching, research and training of support staff.

From Bachelor's degree to Master's degree
The course gives access to the master's degree program in nursing and midwifery, according to the procedures that will be indicated in the specific admission notice.
