Honorary PhDs

Among the honorary academic titles that the University of Padova confers, the honorary PhD is awarded to personalities in possession of a master's degree or equivalent obtained in Italy or abroad.

These people must have particularly distinguished themselves for internationally recognized scientific or cultural merits and have contributed significantly to the progress of the disciplines related to the PhD conferred on them.

The proposal for the title of honorary PhD is usually made by the Academic Board of the relevant PhD. The proposal must then be approved by the Council of the department to which the PhD belongs. In the case of doctorates in agreement or international doctorates, the opinion of the partner institutions is also obtained. 

The honorary PhD degree confers all the rights of the ordinary PhD, as it is equivalent to the title normally obtained.
