Meet Yasmin

About myself

I am a graduate of Bachelor of Laws from Brazil. During my academic pursuits, I had the opportunity to take part in internships at the State Court of Minas Gerais and the Public Defender's Office. These experiences provided me with extensive knowledge in navigating intricate legal processes, managing multiple cases, and deepening my commitment to upholding justice. My interest in protecting human rights has led me to pursue a master's degree in this field, where I can expand my knowledge and further strengthen my dedication to this cause.
In addition to my studies, I have actively participated in various extracurricular activities. These include the UPR simulation, the Human Rights Café, and the Arqus café, where I have honed my language skills in French and had the opportunity to help those who wanted to learn a little more Portuguese. I am also part of the Arqus Student Ambassador, which allows me to gain a deeper insight into the international community and a broader understanding of the academic field.

What do you like the most about the Human Rights and Multi-Level Governance degree programme? Why would you recommend it to other students?

The course's approach towards international issues is commendable due to its humanistic and multilevel governance outlook. The course content addresses various important current issues on a global scale, which is an essential aspect of its curriculum. Such an approach implies that it equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle global challenges that require a humanistic perspective. This approach is particularly relevant given the current global landscape, where international issues require a multidimensional approach. I would recommend this program to fellow students who are interested in the field. It serves as a valuable means for enriching one's educational experience and establishing a stronger foundation for future professional work. In addition to providing a theoretical perspective, the programme also offers a range of extracurricular activities, like the UPR simulation, which enables students to apply the knowledge they have gained in a practical setting. Overall, this programme provides an excellent opportunity for students to broaden their skills and knowledge in the field and at the same time it is possible for us to share experiences with students from all over the world, increasing our background even more.

Is there any class/subject that stood out to you?

During the initial segment of the course, I found the Constitutional Development and Democratization class to be particularly noteworthy. The professor had exceptional teaching skills and provided an extensive overview of the subject matter from a global perspective. In the second section of the course, the History of Genocide class is capturing my interest. Despite the sensitive nature of the topic, it is being elucidated in a comprehensive and captivating manner.

Have you taken part in any internships, laboratories, workshops or similar activities within your academic path? If so, how do they add to your overall university experience?

Thus far, I have actively participated in some workshops, as well as a Universal Periodic Review (UPR) simulation. These opportunities have enabled me to acquire knowledge beyond the classroom setting and to expand my practical skills, thereby enhancing my university experience. Additionally, through these events, I have had the opportunity to network with other people, which has been a valuable experience. Overall, I believe that these activities have been instrumental in providing a more comprehensive educational experience.

What advice would you give to potential students thinking of studying in Italy?

My advice to have a good experience is that it is imperative to thoroughly plan and prepare before arrival. Such planning should contain academic pursuits as well as all necessary bureaucratic aspects, such as documentation and securing appropriate housing. Therefore, I recommend engaging in a variety of activities during your stay that will also contribute to the richness of your overall experience.

Tell me a bit about student life in Italy. What do you do for fun? What are your favourite places to spend time?

For fun, one of my favourite things to do is to travel to new and exciting places. I love discovering different cultures, trying new cuisines, and meeting new people. I also like to spend my days exploring the city and hanging out with my friends. During the warmer months, I used to go with my friends to the Prato Della Valle square, where we enjoy the sun and the beautiful surroundings. At night, we like to check out some bars in the city centre and on Via del Portello.
