Meet Melissa

About myself

I'm Melissa from Lebanon. I came to Padova in 2022, and as soon as I started my Master degree I felt supported by my professors, classmates, and many other university offices for any doubt I had. Moreover, I had the chance to collaborate with the Global Engagement office at UniPD to represent my degree course during online webinars to foreign students.
I love nature, music, food (especially the carbonara), and I'm curious about the non-violent communication language.

What do you like the most about the Earth Dynamics degree programme? Is there any class/subject that stood out to you? Why would you recommend it to other students?

I like the programme because it’s a field of study that focuses on understanding the processes that shape the Earth, including geological, atmospheric, hydrological, and biological processes. Also, it offers real-world application: the knowledge and skills acquired in the Earth Dynamics programme can be directly applied to challenges such as climate change, natural hazards, resource management, and environmental conservation. We do value the practical relevance of our studies and the potential to make a positive impact on society. In addition, the programme includes fieldwork, laboratory work, and research projects that allow us to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
Personally, I enjoyed the course Coastal Environments under Climate Change held by Prof. Alvise Finotello, but also the course of Prof. Paolo Nimis on Ore Deposits, and the course of Anthropocene Sediments and Environments taught by Profs. Massimiliano Ghinassi, Massimiliano Zattin and Claudia Agnini thanks to whom I started to become curious about the human impact on the Earth and this led me to work on microplastics trapped in sediments for my Master thesis.
I recommend it because Professors are highly motivated and passionate about their domains, the programme has multidisciplinary approaches and we may pursue various career paths in academia, industry, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
