Meet Mahla

About myself

I was 27 when I came to Italy in 2022, and had so many negative thoughts at the beginning about my choice but luckily the university and the city were so supportive and so interesting and friendly that I changed my mind immediately and I'm really satisfied with my decision.

What do you like best about the Earth Dynamics degree programme? Why would you recommend it to other students?

I can mention some points on this matter: 1) I’m really happy that our department in general is supportive about events and subjects related to our degree; we have a very organized schedule for lessons and classes and labs without any overlap. 2) We always have meetings with professors about upcoming programmes like Erasmus and study plans and they guide us through it. 3) We have exciting field trips where not only will you get to see theory turning into practice, but you will also build a good relationship with the professor in charge. 4) We’re able to choose our path during our semester based on our interest in all the subjects, there’s a variety of options.

Is there any class or subject that stood out to you?

I thoroughly enjoyed the courses taught by Professor Zattin, particularly those on "Basin Analysis" and "Petroleum Geology," as well as Professor Preto's course on "Carbonate Facies." These three classes provided precisely the knowledge I sought for my future career in the oil and gas industry. I am confident that the information I gained from these courses will prove invaluable in my professional journey.

What aspects of our university’s culture or values have resonated with you the most?

The type of relation between professors and students is really remarkable here, we can become friends with our professors and we never get judged about our questions and curiosities.

Tell me a bit about student life in Italy. What do you do for fun and what are your favourite places to spend time?

Luckily there are a lot of options for spending our free time; I specifically like to go to the cinema, hang out with my friends in a bar and chat, enjoy a delicious Italian pizza, have long walks by the riverside and cycle.

Have you found it easy to meet new people since you started university?

For me it was easy because I consider myself an easygoing person and I usually connect with people fast. I’ve made a lot of good frienships since I started my master’s course. I hope I can cultivate them and stay in touch.

What is your plan when you graduate?

I’m inclined to kickstart my professional journey and delve into a career that is aligned with my academic studies. However, I am contemplating the possibility of pursuing a Ph.D. As such, I believe it's useful to take some time for introspection, weighing my options carefully to discern what aligns best with my future aspirations.
