Meet Kyle

About myself

Prior to my studies in Italy, I worked as an English teacher online and in Thailand for the last 4 years, and as a child life specialist in hospitals in the U.S. I obtained two bachelor's degrees in the U.S., one in Psychology and the other in Child and Family Development. Besides my schooling, I follow and regularly watch many sports (NFL, UFC, F1) and enjoy attending sports events as well. I have lived in three countries and visited 18. I completed my internship in the local hospital with one of the professors from an Italian program, working with the children in pediatrics.

What did you like the most about the Developmental and Educational Psychology degree programme? Why would you recommend it to other students?

The best thing about the program for me has been the professors, they all have different areas of expertise and are really there to support the students if you reach out and use them as resources. I believe they’re open to new ideas and adjusting their classes as necessary so they show a lot of flexibility in their teaching at times and are very approachable. I would recommend the program to others, especially if they know they want to pursue a research-based career as many of the professors use their course content to tie in relevant research ideas (past and possible future).

What kind of advice would you give to candidates wishing to apply?

The biggest advice I would give is to make sure you fully look into the courses offered by each program and how they will impact your potential future choices (PhD or work). For example, this program has more research than many in my program, myself included, expected when initially applying. Additionally, I would think and plan ahead your ideas for a thesis, internship, and if you want to attend more school or work after the degree. This will help guide you to the necessary classes and which program is most suitable.

Is there any class or subject that stood out to you?

For me personally, the Statistics courses and Intergroup Relations class were the most interesting. For statistics, it had been 10 years since my last course on statistics so I felt this course taught me the “newest” information and I felt the professors did a really good job at helping me understand and progress. For Intergroup Relations, I enjoyed the content of the course and felt the professor did really well in presenting the information and studies related to a potentially controversial topic.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

When I am not studying, I am working or travelling around Italy. Padova is very easy to travel by train or bus to other nearby cities as well as further places in Italy.
