Arjuna Tuzzi is a (Full) Professor of Social statistics at the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology (FISPPA) – University of Padua, Italy.
Her main research interests concern: statistical analysis of textual data (quantitative linguistics, text mining, text clustering, authorship attribution, diachronic corpora, chronological textual data, content analysis, topic modelling), data collection tools in social research, statistical methods for the evaluation of university systems, and political-institutional communication.
She obtainea a master degree in Statistical Sciences and Demography in 1996 and obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Statistics for Economics and Social Sciences in 2000. During her Ph.D. she has been a visiting student at the Department of Statistics – University of Glasgow (UK).
She teaches Text Mining, Social Research Methods and Social Statistics for undergraduates and graduates in Communication Studies and Ph.D. students in Social sciences and in Linguistics, Philology and Literary Studies – University of Padova. She also taught at the Universities of Trieste, Ca’ Foscari Venice and for Foreigners Perugia. She worked as a post-doc at the Department of Economics and Statistics – University of Trieste.
In 2023 she was a visiting scholar at: Evaluating Variations in Language (EVL) Lab - Department of Mathematics and Computer Science - Duquesne University (Pittsburgh PA, USA); Middle Eastern Studies Department, College of Humanities and Social Sciences - Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Doha, Qatar); Dept. of Italian Language and Literature (2017) and Laboratory for Phonetics and Computational Linguistics (2022) – National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece); Institute on Communication and Inclusion (2012) – Syracuse University (NY, USA), and, in the frame of the Teaching Staff Mobility Programme (2012 and 2014) Institute on Computational linguistics / Digital humanities – University of Trier (Germany).
Arjuna Tuzzi is the director of the IQLA-GIAT Summer School in Quantitative analysis of textual data and one of the founders of the Interdisciplinary Text Analysis Group (GIAT).
She has been a member of the Council at large of the International Quantitative Linguistics Association (2012-2023) and for two offices (2014-2018) she was its President.
She held the position of internal member of the Evaluation Unit (Nucleo di Valutazione) of the University of Padova (2015-2019) and of external member of the Evaluation unit of the University of Bologna (2016-2022) where she served also as President for three years (2019-2022).
Since 2007 she is a co-founder of the GIAT group (www.giat.org) - Interdisciplinary Text Analysis Group.
