Elena Pisani, Ph.D. in Real Estate Appraisal and Land Economic, is an associate professor in Rural Economy and Evaluation (Scientific-Disciplinary Sector) at the Dep. "Territorio e Sistemi Agro-Forestali - TESAF" of the University of Padova (Italy) from November 2010. She was a researcher in the same department from December 2010 to October 2020. She was the scientific coordinator of three research projects: 1 "Fortalecimiento de investigación en capital social y análisis de redes para el desarrollo local (MEC)" Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica del Chile – CONICYT (2017-2019), 2. "SMART-In, Instruments, and Methods for Innovation in Agriculture, Rurality and Land", 3. "Increased efficiency and effectiveness of the local development programs in tourism through participatory processes and good governance" financed by the European Social Fund (ESF). She was part of the research team of the European Horizon 2020 project SIMRA "Social Innovation in Marginalised Rural Areas" (http://www.simra-h2020.eu) from 2016 to 2020. She was part of the research team in 26 projects financed by public and private organizations. Furthermore, she has collaborated in research projects financed by FAO, IFAD, and ILO. The research activity concerns the study and measurement of innovation and social capital in rural areas offering innovative tools for monitoring and evaluating purposes. The same evaluation approach is applied in the analysis of the relationships between beneficiaries of projects financed by the European LIFE Program for the Environment and Climate Action. In this case, the final objective is to measure the relevance of collaborative relationships in project governance to improve the effectiveness and impact of initiatives in the environmental realm. She teaches at the University of Padova in the following courses: Principles of Economics (First cycle degree in Forest Science); European projects for the Environment and the Territory (Second cycle degree in Sciences and Technologies for the Environment and the Territory); Climate Change and Tropical Forestry: Monitoring and Policies (Second cycle degree - Forest Sciences). She is a member of the "Società Italiana degli Economisti Agrari (SIDEA)", of the "Associazione Italiana di Economia Agraria e Applicata" (AIEAA), of the "European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy" (EAEPE), and of the European Association of Agricultural Economics (EAAE). She has published more than 100 scientific publications (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8918-2781) (https://www.research.unipd.it). She is realizing intensive research activity in Latin America (e.g., Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile). She has been a visiting scientist at the Catholic University of Maule (Chile) and Universidad de la Frontera (Temuco - Chile). She is a member of the Doctoral School TARS-LERH of the TESAF Department. She collaborates as a reviewer with several international scientific journals (e.g., Land Use Policy, The Social Sciences Journal, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Open Agriculture). She is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Sciences.

Thesis proposals

I am an agricultural and rural economist and my research focuses on different and interrelated topics:
1. the role of social innovation in rural areas of both Europe and Latin American
2. the role of social capital and local governance in rural development projects
3. the role of social capital in the LEADER approach or CLLD
4. the development of monitoring and evaluation methods, tools, and indicators for social capital and social innovation projects.
5. the role and measurement of participation in rural development initiatives related to the tourism sector
6. the design of rural development strategies in poor and marginalized areas
7. the evaluation of LIFE projects based on a network approach.
Statistical tools: (i) Social Network Analysis (SNA) with GEPHY (free software) for the quantitative analysis of networks; (ii) NVIVO software for statistical qualitative and quantitative research; (ii) STATPLUS for the statistical quantitative analysis. I welcome students with a thesis proposal related to the previous research topics, but I am also open to your suggestions and research interests.
