Moreno Meneghetti
Short Curriculum

Moreno Meneghetti is a full professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Padova in the Department of Chemical Sciences, since 2002. He is the head of the Nanostructures&Optics Laboratory.
Academic roles
President of the degree and master degree in Material Science of the University of Padova from 2009 to 2012, head of the previous Faculty of Science (UOI) from 2012 to 2013, delegate of the Rector for the accreditation of the degree courses of the University of Padova from 2012 to 2015 and member of the University of Padova Committee for the quality of teaching in the same period. He was member of the National Commission for the academic professor qualification of the area SC 03/A2 (Physical Chemistry) from 2012 to 2014.
Teaching activity
He gives lectures in Physical Chemistry and in particular in Molecular Quantum Mechanics, Non linear optical properties of materials, and Models for nanostructured materials in the degree courses of Material Science for students of material science, physics and chemistry.
Research activity
His research was dedicated to the linear and non-linear spectroscopy of molecules and organic solids, in particular of those solids which are good semiconductors and unconventional superconductors, looking at transitions in which phonons are involved. He developed optical spectroscopic experiments using for example Raman scattering and reflectance at cryogenic temperatures. He has also contributed to innovative theoretical approaches to study parametric Hamiltonians, which explain the optical properties and the electron-phonon interactions of the low dimensional studied systems. He also studied the non linear optical properties of molecules and in particular their excited state multiphoton absorptions, exploiting high energy single pulse excitations in preresonance with electronic excitations for obtaining two photon excited state absorptions from excited singlet and triplet states. Population dynamics of the excited states were used for explaining non linear transmission measurements. He is now interested in the properties of nanostructured systems with particular attention to the properties of materials containing metal and superparamagnetic nanoparticles, nanotubes and graphenes also for defining models for their optical properties. He developed, in a pioneering work, a green chemistry approach for the synthesis of nanoparticles using ablation of bulk materials under solvents for the production of clean nanoparticles without stabilizing molecules. He is developing strategies within the nanomedicine field, for the synthesis of multivalence nanostructures and their functionalization with targeting molecules (antibodies, peptides) and for studying the interaction of the nanostructures with living cells, in vitro and in vivo.
He is author of about one hundred and seventy scientific papers with an H-index of 37. He is member of the American Chemical Society, American Physical Society, Material Research Society and Società Chimica Italiana, Physical Chemistry Division.
