Graduated in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Padua. In 1996 he became a researcher at the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, from 2002 to 2021 he was associate professor and from 2021 he is full professor of Food Microbiology at the Department of "Agronomy, Animals, Food, Natural Resources and Environment". He is currently in his fifth term as president of the Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology. He is a member of the Academic Board of the Doctorate in Animal & Food Science. He is a member of the Italian Society of Agri-food and Environmental Microbiology (SIMTREA). He was Vice Director of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology from 2009 to 2011 and member of the enlarged Academic Senate from 2007 to 2008. He has held a total of over 40 institutional positions at various levels (Ministry, University, Faculty or School, Department, Doctorate, interdepartmental bodies).
He has held over 120 academic courses, lasting between 30 and 100 hours each.
The scientific activity is mainly focused on food microbiology, with particular reference to the oenological, dairy, probiotics and functional foods sectors.
He was scientific responsible of 17 competitive research programs and 10 research agreements. He has established scientific collaborations (evidenced by at least one joint publication in ISI or SCOPUS international journals) with over 5 Italian groups and over 24 international groups.
