Marco Bettiol is born on 16 October 1974 in Treviso (Italy).
Since 2000 he is researcher at TeDIS (Technologies for Distributed Intelligence Systems) at Venice International University. Tedis is a research center specialized on the diffusion of new technologies among small and medium firms. In 2002 he was Visiting Scholar at SIMS (School of Information Management and Systems) at the University of California, Berkeley where he studied Knowledge Management and Online Communities.

Since 2006 he is researcher in Economics and Management at the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Padua, Italy.

Since 2017 he is Associate Professor in Economics and Management at the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Padua, Italy.

His research activity has been focused on creativity and innovation and their role for the competitiveness of small and medium firms and industrial districts. In the past, he carried out research on new technologies and analyzed the diffusion of open source software among small and medium firms. More recently, he focused his research on two main subjects: the role of communities of creatives in local development and entrepreneurship and in particular on the role of the entrepreneur on innovation and creativity.

In particular, his work touched the following items:

- Impact of information and communication technology on strategies and business models of firms, particularly small and medium enterprises within the local development systems;
- Learning processes, Knowledge management and communities of practice
- Creativity and design as competitive factors within industrial districts
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- The evolution of services and the role of Knowledge Intensive Business Services.
- Industry 4.0 and the evolution of Made in Italy.
