Alessandro Beghi was born in Padua on December 30, 1965. He received the Laurea degree (with honors) in Electronic Engineering in 1989 and the Ph.D. in “Systems Engineering” in 1993, both from the University of Padua. In 1992, he spent one year as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California at Davis and the Institute of Theoretical Dynamics (Davis, CA). In 1993, he held a postdoctoral fellowship at LADSEB-C.N.R., Padua. Since March 1994, he has been with the Department of Information Engineering at the School of Engineering of the University of Padua, where he is currently a Full Professor of Automatic Control. He has spent research periods at several foreign institutions.

Teaching activities: He has taught numerous courses in the field of control engineering. He is a member of the faculty board of the Ph.D. programs in Information Engineering and in Brain, Mind & Computer Science. He served as Chair of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs in Automation Engineering at the University of Padua from 2003 to 2009.

Scientific and professional activities: He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has served on the organizing and program committees of numerous international conferences. He was a member of the European Home Team for the ITER project. He has been affiliated with the Fusion Research Center (CRF), the Interdepartmental Research Center for Cartography, Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (CIRGEO), and the Interdepartmental Center HIT - Human Inspired Technologies Research Center at the University of Padua, also serving on their governing boards.

Research funding: He has received funding from PRIN MIUR projects (both as a unit member and as a unit coordinator), the University of Padua, ENEA-EURATOM, EU FP6, FP7, and Horizon 2020, MIUR Smart Cities, POR FESR Veneto Region, and through research contracts with industrial partners.

Main research areas: Applications of modern techniques for control, filtering, and identification in complex systems.
