Lucia Bailoni took a degree in “Agricultural Sciences” at the University of Padova (Italy) in 1985 and a PhD in “Animal Science” in 1989 at the University of Padova. In 1990 she became a researcher at the Department of Animal Science. Since 2004 she is full professor in “Animal Nutrition and Feeding”.
She is ordinary member of the Scientific Association of Animal Production (A.S.P.A.), the Association of Researchers in Nutrition and Feeding (A.R.N.A.). In 2001 she was visiting professor at the University of Barcelona (UAB), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. From 2010 to 2013 she is vice-head of the Ph.D. School “Animal and Food Science” of the University of Padova. From 2009 to 2013 Lucia Bailoni was the vice-president of the Nutrition Commission of the EAAP ((European Association of Animal Production). She is a member of A.S.P.A. Commission “Quality of food of animal origin and human health”. She is referee of projects and papers published on national and international Journals. From 2008 to 2014 she is scientific coordinator of 25 projects founded by public and private institutions. In particular, Lucia Bailoni was scientific responsible of the Padova operative unit of the PRIN 2007-2009 prot. 2007M9SL4Y (“Microbial conversion of agro-industrial biomasses into novel feedstuffs for animal husbandry”) and of two regional projects entitled “Quality and nutritional value of products obtained from organic dairy farms in mountain area” and “Nutritional strategies to mitigate the methane emission in dairy cows”. She has produced more than 200 publications on nutrition and feeding of domestic animals. The main topic of the researches are: 1) feeding strategies to increase the nutritional value of food; 2) feeding strategies to reduce environmental pollution; 3) feeding strategies to improve animal welfare; 4) sustainability of the dairy food chain; 5) development of in vitro techniques to estimate feed digestibility and energy value.
