Alberto Zotti was awarded a degree cum laude in Film History and Criticism from the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of the University of Padova (supervisor: Prof. Gian Piero Brunetta). In 1993, he completed his PhD in Performative Arts at the University of Bologna and his Specialisation in Archeology and Art History at the University of Siena. In 1990 he earned a Post-Graduate Scholarship from the University of Sussex in Brighton, and in 1994 he was awarded a postdoc scholarship in Performative Arts from the History of Theatre and Performative Arts Institute of the University of Padova.

He has been researching for years the relationship between photography, cinema and the history of optical devices, with special reference to the analysis of the iconography and iconology of optical shows since the Renaissance.

As an adjunct professor, he taught Film History and Criticism, History and Technique of Photography and Film Semiology at the University of Padova and the University of Trieste. He also taught Theory and Technique of the photographic and graphic language for the Master in Audiovisual and Multimedia Education at the University of Padova.
He is currently an associate professor (Scientific-Disciplinary Area L.ART/06 Film-Photography-Television) at the Department of Cultural Heritage: Archeology, Art History, Film History, and Music History of the University of Padova. He teaches History and Technique of Photography for the DAMS degree course (Performative Arts), and History of Photography in the Visual-Optical Arts for the Master’s Degree in Theatre, Film, Television and Media Studies. He is also responsible for the Photography Workshop of the DAMS.

He is currently involved in a research project about the Media Archeology, in collaboration with the Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island). More specifically, he is researching the 3D image repertory from the stereoscopic photography up to the state-of-the-art contemporary multimedia technologies.
