Research Area
Brief Report of Research
The main topics are the studies on the pathohysiology of obesity and type 2 diabetes and their complications. Since 1990 he coordinates a research team working on neuroendocrine control of glucose and lipid metabolism and on the molecular biology of adipose tissue. Over the last several years he has performed a significant amount of original research on the relationship between muscle, adipose tissue and the development of insulin resistance.
Another important basic and clinical research area is devoted to neuroendocrinology, specifically, the treatment of pituitary tumours and neuroendocrine tumours. The laboratory focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the effect of somatostatin, dopamine and their analogues in neoplastic cells of neuroendocrine origin. The clinical and therapeutical aspect of polycystic ovary syndrome.
