Luca Schenato graduated with honors from the University of Padua in 2003 as the best engineering candidate of the year and winner of the Sarpi Gold Medal 2002/2003, and later went on to obtain his PhD in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering in 2007 from the same institution. Over the years, he has held several positions in academia, including work as a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Padua and as a Researcher at the National Research Council. Since 2023, Luca Schenato has been serving as a tenure track assistant professor at the Engineering Department of the Information at the University of Padua. He also obtained the National Scientific Qualification as an Associate Professor in the same sector in 2016. Throughout his career, he has published over 130 papers in international scientific journals with peer review, presented at international scientific congresses, authored four book chapters, and holds two patents, 1 of which is international. His works have been cited about 1700 times according to Google Scholar (May 2024), and his H index is 22. Luca Schenato's research has been focused on optical fiber propagation and communication problems, and he has developed and applied optical fiber sensors over the years. In recent years, he has broadened his focus to researching metasurfaces and reconfigurable surfaces. His main research topics include developing and applying sensors for industrial and civil applications, as well as metasurfaces and reconfigurable surfaces. Luca Schenato has also collaborated on various national and international scientific research projects and managed several research contracts entered into with private companies. He has often served as the coordinator of the local unit, and some of his notable projects include INMOSTRA (INgegnerizzazione di sensori in Fibra Ottica per il Monitoraggio dei rinforzi STrutturali su versAnti instabili; POR-FESR 2014-2020, DOMINO (Dikes and debris flows monitoring by novel optical fiber sensors; European Commission; 2016-2019), RIVERSAFE (Riverbank surveillance based on fiber optic sensors; Progetti di Eccellenza, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo; 2012-2015).
