Maria Petriccione
Maria Petriccione is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Padua, where she teaches Elementi base di GIS per il Paesaggio within the Master’s Degree Programme in Scienze per il Paesaggio. From 2022 to 2025, she worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the same university, focusing on the application of GIS to territorial analysis and the management of residual war risk. She also carries out laboratory work and provides teaching support in the course Analisi e interpretazione dei paesaggi naturali, which is part of the same Master’s programme.
She earned her degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” and completed a PhD in Applied Biology at the University of Naples “Federico II”. She later obtained a second-level university Master's degree in GIScience and Remote Sensing Systems from the University of Padua.
Between 2003 and 2006, she collaborated with the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” on research and educational activities in the fields of physical geography, GIS, photo-interpretation, and thematic cartography. She subsequently held a technical-informatics position at the Marconi University of Rome for over fifteen years, managing the ESSE3 academic management system and providing technical and educational support for courses in the scientific and engineering faculties. At the same institution, she also taught courses in environmental and chemical sciences.
In 2017 and 2018, she taught GIS courses at professional training institutions and collaborated with training bodies for IFTS (Higher Technical Education and Training) programmes on sustainable development and land management.
Since 2025, she has been involved in the project “Mappatura, caratterizzazione, valorizzazione e salvaguardia delle risorse idropotabili nelle aree prealpine e di alta pianura del Veneto.”
She has also worked as an educational guide at the Museo di Geografia of the University of Padua and participated as a lecturer in science outreach events and GIS technology dissemination initiatives.
She is the author and co-author of several contributions to scientific conferences and publications in the fields of military geosciences, historical cartography, and geomorphological landscape analysis.
