Laura Moure Cecchini is Associate Professor of History of Contemporary Art in the Department of Cultural Heritage, University of Padua.

She studied in Milan, Mexico City and Chicago and received her Ph.D. in Art, Art History and Visual Studies from Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, USA). Before her position in Padua, she was Lauro De Bosis Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard University and Associate Professor at Colgate University (Hamilton, NY, USA).

Her main research interests include the return of the Baroque in Italian visual culture, artistic exchanges between Europe, North and South America during the avant-gardes and modernism, the history of exhibitions (particularly the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale), Fascist artistic diplomacy with the Third Reich and Latin America, and the material legacy of Fascist colonialism.

She is a member of the research group BITES (Biennale di Venezia. Teorie e Storie, https://sites.google.com/iuav.it/iuavunitadiricercabites/bites?authuser=0) and SIC Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca su Spazi e immagini del colonialismo (Università di Siena, Università di Padova)

She has devoted numerous publications to these topics, including the monograph Baroquemania: Italian Visual Culture and the Construction of National Identity, 1898-1945 (Manchester University Press, 2022) and the special issue of Modern Italy "Visual and material culture of Italian colonialism" (2022), co-curated with Carmen Belmonte.

She is also the author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including Studi di Memofonte, Oxford Art Journal, The Art Bulletin, Art History, Modernism/modernity, Third Text, Selva: A Journal of the History of Art, Italian Modern Art, Italian Studies, Il Capitale Culturale, International Yearbook of Futurism Studies, Enthymema, and MODOS-História da Arte: modos de ver, exibir e compreender.

Laura has contributed as well to edited volumes such as Terms of Style in Art History-Quaderni della Bibliotheca Hertziana, edited by Valerie Kobi (Campisano Editore), Icônes. Le fascisme italien au prisme des arts contemporains, edited by Luca Aquarelli, Laura Iamurri and Francesco Zucconi (Presses Universitaires de Rennes), Globalizing Impressionisms: Reception, Translation, and Transnationalism, edited by Alexis Clark and Frances Fowle (Yale University Press), Decadence and Literature-Cambridge Cultural Concepts, edited by Jane Desmarais and David Weir (Cambridge University Press), and Postwar Italian Art History Today: Untying 'the Knot,' edited by Marin Sullivan and Sharon Hecker. (Bloomsbury Press).

She has received research fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Accademia di Francia a Roma- Villa Medici, Andrew Mellon Foundation, Trinity College- Cesare Barbieri Endowment Grant in Modern Italian History, Wolfsonian- Florida International University, CIMA Center for Italian Modern Art, Italian Art Society and Fritz Thyssen Stiftung.
