Serena Mattazzo is currently an Assistant Professor at the Physics and Astronomy Department “G. Galilei” of the University of Padova. Her reasearch activity focuses on the development of silicon pixels sensors for particle physics, medical and space applications, as well as the study of radiation damage in microelectronic devices and silicon sensors.
She is now a member of the ALICE collaboration for the development of a new vertex detector (ITS3), planned to be installed during the LHC LS3 to replace the innermost three layers of the present ALICE ITS. She is also presently involved in the development of an innovative tracker for medical application (iMPACT and ARCADIA projects) and of ultra-fast 3D pixel sensors for timing applications (TIMESPOT).
She collaborated with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for the development of Monolithic Active Pixels sensors (MAPS) in Silicon On Insulator (SOI) technology for possible applications in High Energy Physics (ILC/CLIC future collider) and for soft X-ray imaging. She also contributed to the test of MAPS in bulk technology for applications in Transmission Electronic Microscopy.
She is in charge of the irradiation facilities for radiation damage studies installed at the Padova INFN Section (X-ray tube for Total Ionizing Dose studies) and at INFN LNL Laboratories (SIRAD facility for heavy ions irradiations for Single Event Effect and bulk damage). At SIRAD, she personally took care of the installation and commissioning of the Ion Electron Emission Microscope, an instrument which is able to pinpoint with micrometric precision, the sensitivity to heavy ion-induced Single Event Effects on a microelectronics device.
Since many years she has been collaborating in several projects for the development of radiation hard electronics for High Energy Physics using very deep submicron CMOS technologies (65 nm, 28nm, 16 nm).
She has been a member of the Organizing Committee of the International School “Detectors and Electronics for High Energy Physics, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Medical Physics” in the years 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and a member of the Advisory Board of NDRA 2018 (Summer School on Neutron Detectors)
She co-authored more than 100 papers, most of them (about 80), with a small number of authors ( h-index: Inspires Scopus: 29)
