Dr. Mattarei graduated in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Padova in July 2007. After the Master Degree, he attended the Ph.D. course in Molecular Sciences at the same University in the research group of Prof. C. Paradisi and obtained the Doctorate Degree in March 2011. Between 2011 and 2017 he was granted 4 years (1 junior and 3 senior) of post-doctoral fellowships at the Department of Chemical Sciences, at the University of Padova and 2 years of Researcher contract at the Institute of Neuroscience of the National Council of Research. Since March 2017 he has been working first as a researcher (RTDA) and then as a researcher (RTDB) of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences at the University of Padua, and since March 2023 he has been serving as Associate Professor for the same disciplinary scientific field. During his academic career Dr. Mattarei spent two periods abroad: at the University of Illinois, Chicago, at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy in the laboratory of Prof. A.P. Kozikowski in 2010, and at the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Regensburg as visiting researcher in the laboratory of Dr. S. Amslinger in 2013.
Since graduation, Dr. Mattarei has been continuously and actively involved in teaching, as teaching assistant in courses of the Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Material Sciences departments at the University of Padova. In the academic years 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 Dr. Mattarei was lecturer of the Drug Analysis 1 course of the Pharmacy Degree at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, University of Padova. In 2017 Dr. Mattarei was lecturer of the Drug Analysis 2 course of the Pharmacy Degree at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, University of Padova during the summer courses at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Brixen) and since the academic year 2018-2019 he is lecturer of the Drug Analysis 2 course of the Pharmacy Degree at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, University of Padova.
Dr. Mattarei’s research interests are in the field of medicinal and bioorganic chemistry with a special focus on the design and synthesis of new compounds for biomedical and pharmacological applications. During his career strong collaborations have developed with Researchers of the CNR Institute of Neuroscience, of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (UniPD) and of the Department of Biology (UniPD). Dr. Mattarei is co-author of 36 papers published in indexed journals, 15 of which as first author and 4 as corresponding author, of 1 book chapter and of 3 registered patents. His h-index is 13, the number of citations is 467 in 10 years of academic age. He attended several national and international conferences.
