Paolo Magaudda is Associate Professor of Sociology of Culture and Communication at the University of Padova (Italy), where he is part of the PaSTIS research unit within the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology (FISPPA).Since 2025, he has served as Head of the PhD Programme in Social Sciences at the University of Padova.
His research focuses on the intersections between culture, technology, and society, with interests spanning science and technology studies, media studies, cultural sociology, consumer culture, and sound studies. His recent books include 'Platformed! How Streaming, Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence Are Shaping Music Cultures' (with T. Bonini, Palgrave, 2024), 'Young People and the Smartphone: Everyday Life on the Small Screen' (with M. Druisian and M. Scarcelli, Palgrave, 2022), and 'History of Digital Media' (with G. Balbi, Routledge, 2018).
He was Co-Editor-in-Chief of “Studi Culturali” (Il Mulino) from 2019 to 2024, and previously co-founded and co-edited Tecnoscienza: Italian Journal of Science and Technology Studies (2010–2019). He serves on the International Advisory Board of “Dancecult” and the Editorial Board of “Sociologica” (University of Bologna Press). From 2013 to 2018, he was Secretary of STS Italia, the Italian Society for the Social Study of Science and Technology. Since 2025, he has been a member of the Sociology working group of the publisher Il Mulino for the selection of book publications. Since 2021, he also worked as an panel expert for the European Commission within the Horizon research frameworks. In 2020 he has been awarded the National Scientific habilitation as “Full Professor” in Cultural Sociology (area 14/C2).
