Leonardo Madio is currently Senior Assistant Professor (RtdB, tenure-track) at the University of Padova and Visiting Associate Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics.

He is also affiliated to the CESifo Research Network and to the Health Economics Data Group (HEDG) of the University of York. Between 2020 and 2023 he was a "Unicredit & Universities Foscolo Europe Fellow" at the dSEA UNIPD. He also worked as a Research Fellow at the Toulouse School of Economics and at the CORE - Universitè catholique de Louvain. In 2022 he was visiting researcher at the ESMT Berlin. He obtained the Ph.D from the University of York in 2019.

His research interests are in the field of Industrial Organization, Digital Economics and Competition Policy. He is currently working on platform governance of quality and innovation, vertical relations within platform markets, and price and algorithmic transparency in online marketplaces. Moreover, he also studied the liberalization of the (light) cannabis market in Italy.

His past research on the market of data and the role of data brokers was mentioned in the Biden-Harris Economic Council Report in 2022.

His research has been published in top journals like Management Science, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Industrial Economics, European Economic Review, amongst others.

He holds the Italian Habilitation for Associate Professor (Professore di II Fascia) in Economia Politica (13/A1), Scienza delle Finanze (13/A3), and Economia Applicata (13/A6).
