Research Area

• Physiology of reproduction of domestic animals. Study of the modifications induced by the conservation of spermatozoa and oocytes quality parameters (viability, motility, oxidative status, fertilizing ability). Study of the effects of natural antioxidants in the preservation of gametes. Study of the energy metabolism and changes induced by the capacitation and the acrosomial reaction in the spermatozoa of various domestic species.
• Physiology of adaptation to farm conditions and stress response of animals of veterinary interest. This line of research studies how animals respond to farm conditions, such as changes in feeding and managerial or environmental practices, evaluating their physio-pathological response in a holistic way (stress, oxidative stress, nonspecific and specific immunity). The research is aimed at the validation of animal health and welfare biomarkers, with particular interest in the development of the precision farming and analytical methods in the milk, saliva and hair matrices.

Thesis proposals

- evaluation of the main semen quality parameter on frm animals in relation to behavioural characteristics, feed efficiency ann eviromental conditions

- automatic monitoring of physiological parameters on farm animals by precision livestock farming (PLF)
